الوصف: It is rather beyond doubt that the recent financial and economic developments in the euro-zone have affected the banking system’s lending activity. Moreover, the loan supply reaction of the financial institutions (FIs) to the behavior of either endogenous or/and exogenous variables, is of crucial importance for their stability, as well as the economic activity and growth. Additionally, the direction of the causality of the relationship as well as the existence of pro-cyclicality between the bank lending and the economic growth is a key dimension under consideration. Although the relevant literature already offers plentiful empirical data and research conclusions, two are the fundamental drivers for exploring the new dynamic banking model in the eurozone: a) the European Banking Union (EBU), established on 4th of November 2014, which is expected to combine the existing monetary role and the new regulatory obligations of the ECB as well as b) the remaining “tolerance” of the banking system to recover and re-establish confidence, after the critical period of the recent economic meltdown. This research will examine these contradictory effects on the FIs’ financial and liquidity ratios, collaterals’ value and, finally, it’s lending activity. Additionally, the offsetting of the monetary policy anti crises emergency measures by the additional regulatory directives is expected to lead to negative rates of credit expansion’s change. Moreover, existing studies are going to be extended to the level that the forthcoming banking colonization will enhance alternative channels of funding, either financial innovation or/and shadow banking. Nevertheless, this research is expected to offer evidence that the EBU will gradually transform the European banking system and make it inefficient, as far as its lending activity is concerned. Therefore, it will lead the euro zone economies to alternative forms of private funding; either financial innovation or/and shadow banking. ; Αντικείμενο έρευνας της παρούσης διδακτορικής διατριβής ...
