الوصف: A field population survey of Ochetina uniformis (Pascoe, 1881) (Coleoptera: Erirhinidae, Erirhininae) was performed at Santa Maria, RS, in a flooded rice commercial field, between quarterly June 2005 to July 2006 (rice was grown between October 2005 to March 2006). A stratified sampling was used approach; quarterly 90 randomized samples were taken in plots measuring 0.25 x 0.25 m, with total of 24 samples during the survey period. There was a reduction in the population of O. uniformis starting from July 2005 to January 2006. Soil tillage affected the population of O. uniformis in the rice field, and did not affected the population on the hibernation areas. Some areas showed no insects and another showed a few number of individuals, indicting grouping behavior. Adults of O. uniformis, are concentrated in the levees, representing 44% of the total number os insects. The population reduced between the levees to the middle of the field, with averaging 14% inside the field. From January to February, a reduced number of adults were verified in the levee. Outside the cultivated area there were no adults of O. uniformis during the 12 months survey period. In this study high populations of O. uniformis, were concentrated in the levees of the field for a period of six months, from July to December of 2005. الوصف: In this research, the of Meliaceae species for use as alternative control to Diabrotica speciosa was evaluated. The bioassays were carried out under laboratory condictions to determine: the feeding behavior of this insect on six Meliaceae species; the contact effect of aqueous extracts of unripe fruits of Melia azedarach var. azedarach and antifeedant effect after extract storage; the presence of cyanide in unripe fruits; the insecticide activity of extracts from unripe fruits using the brine shrimp Artemia salina Leach and their toxicity to rats. The efficacy of aqueous extracts from structures of M. azedarach var. azedarach against D. speciosa were evaluated on cucumber (Cucumis sativus) and green-beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) crops under greenhouse conditions. The results allowed to conclude that the feedant preference index is important, but it is also necessary to compare overall consumption to determine the most active extract; aqueous extracts from Cabralea canjerana (Vell.) Mart., Cedrela fissilis Vell., Melia azedarach L.var. azedarach, Trichilia catigua A. Juss., Trichilia claussenii C. DC. and Trichilia elegans A. Juss. were antifeedant to D. speciosa; topical applications of extracts from unripe fruits of M. azedarach var. azedarach (10%) neither kill adult nor alter the feeding behavior in the period of 120 h after use; the extract maintained its antifeedants properties after storage for four days at 10ºC. The polarografic test did not detect cyanide in unripe fruits. The bioactivity test using A. salina did not show toxic activity and the aqueous extracts from unripe fruits prepared at 2,5%, 5% and 10% did not cause death, behavior changes or hepatic and renal toxicity in rats. Unripe fruit extracts from M. azedarach var. azedarach (10%) were the most efficient extract tested at greenhouse conditions on D. speciosa. الوصف: Aiming the discovering of new products with less impact to the environment, there were made experiments aiming to evaluate the efficiency on control, as well as the feeding inibit result on soya caterpillar (Anticarsia gemmatalis).with different vegetation stratum in different commercial soya tillings in Uruguaiana and Santa Maria (RS), from january to March, 2005 under low, medium and high population pressure. There were evaluate nim oil at 5%, watered stratum of cinamomum at 1/6 (p/v), distilled of Timbó 1/1 (v/v), distilled of araticum 1/1 (v/v) standart treatment (permetrina), dosage of 0,05 L ha-1 and testifying treatment (water). In all the treatments adherent spreading at 0,1% was used. The doses were applied at tilling, of soya plants and there was noticed that the concentrations experienced had some insecticide activity on Anticasia gemmatalis causing high mortality. The mortality changes with the use of the different stratum grub state of the insect, population pressure and weather conditions of the place. There was noticed that the leaf eat away by caterpillars under the effect of stratum tested was little when compared with, those of tistiled treatment, even when made on high population pressure. ; Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior ; Objetivando a descoberta de novos produtos que sejam menos impactantes ao meio ambiente, foram conduzidos experimentos com o objetivo de avaliar a eficiência de controle de Anticarsia gemmatalis e nível de dano, em diferentes lavouras comerciais de soja, nos municípios de Uruguaiana e Santa Maria (RS), no período de janeiro a março de 2005 sob pressão populacional baixa, média e alta. Foram avaliados o óleo de nim a 5%, extrato aquoso de cinamomo 1/6 (p/v), destilado de timbó 1/1 (v/v), destilado de araticum 1/1 (v/v), tratamento padrão (permetrina), na dose de 0,05L ha-1 e tratamento testemunha (água).
