الوصف: MAJ Lynn Baker served as the deputy team chief on a stability transition team (STT) in southern Iraq and Numiniyah during 2010 and 2011 in support of Operation New Dawn (OND). In this August 2012 interview, MAJ Baker discusses his training and preparation for the deployment, his experiences working with the Iraqis, and his change of location during the latter part of the deployment to carry out the Eagles Rising mission. MAJ Baker concludes his interview with the observation, "Some members of my team, from their previous deployments, were very skeptical and very suspicious. I'm not saying I was ever naïve because I never let my guard down. I never took every word they said to be the God's honest truth; however, I understood I had to still build some kind of relationship in order to get what I was seeking. It couldn't be me going in and telling them, "I'm a great American. You're the dumb Iraqi officer," and expect I was going to get anything from them. I'm not saying that some of my team members did that specifically; however, that's not the right mentality you have to have."
