This study aims to review and analyze the current evidence on food addiction and its characteristics. To this end, a systematic review of the scientific publications available in the Scopus database was carried out, in the period 2013-2017, on food addiction. The results reveal a growing interest in research on food addiction and, mainly, in establishing relationships between it and other health conditions. The YFAS scale has many empirical studies that support its use in measuring this type of addiction. Studies on food addiction are more frequent in the adult population and oriented towards its relationship with obesity and overweight, as well as with depression, anxiety, and stress. Finally, food addiction is regularly compared with substance addiction as they have identical brain mechanisms of functioning. In addition, current evidence addresses their characteristics, assessment and relationship to physical health problems and psychological disorders, as well as their presence at various stages of the life cycle. ; O presente artigo se propõe a revisar e analisar a evidência sobre o vício em comida e suas características. Para tanto, foi realizada uma revisão sistemática das publicações científicas disponíveis na base de dados Scopus, no período de 2013-2017, sobre o vício em comida. Os resultados revelam um interesse crescente pela pesquisa sobre vício em comida e, principalmente, por estabelecer relações entre ele e outras condições de saúde. A escala YFAS conta com um grande número de estudos empíricos que endossam seu uso na medição neste tipo de vício. Os estudos sobre vício em comida são mais frequentes na população adulta e estão voltados para sua relação com a obesidade e o sobrepeso, como com a depressão, a ansiedade e o estresse. Finalmente, o vício em comida se compara regularmente com o vício em substâncias que já constam de mecanismos cerebrais idênticos de funcionamento.
