Multiple osteochondromatosis is a low-pre-valence hereditary pathology, but it has a great impact on the patient’s quality of life and a high cost for both the follow-up and the surgical inter-ventions required to correct the lesions that are developing.It produces a benign exponential progressi-ve growth in several locations, most frequent in the metaphysis of the long bones. It is diagnosed in pediatric age, not because of the painful clinic, but because of the mass effect or the prolonged inflammation it causes. As the years go by, the incidence of pathological fractures, shortening, chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain syn-dromes increases.As for treatment, it involves a multidiscipli-nary approach by family doctor, physiotherapist and orthopedic surgeon focused on calming pain and resection of those injuries that cause functio-nal limitation or joint compromise. ; La osteocondromatosis múltiple es una pa-tología hereditaria de baja prevalencia pero que supone un gran impacto en la calidad de vida del paciente y un coste elevado tanto en el se-guimiento como en las intervenciones quirúrgicas que requiere para corregir las lesiones que va de-sarrollando.Produce un crecimiento progresivo expo-nencial de tipo benigno en varias localizaciones, más frecuente en la metáfisis de los huesos lar-gos. Se diagnostica en edades pediátricas, no por la clínica dolorosa, sino por el efecto masa o la inflamación prolongada que provoca. Conforme pasan los años aumenta la incidencia de fracturas patológicas, acortamientos, síndromes de dolor crónico inflamatorio y neuropático. En cuanto al tratamiento conlleva un abor-daje multidisciplinar por médico de cabecera, fi-sioterapeuta y cirujano ortopédico centrado en calmar el dolor y la resección de aquellas lesiones que provoquen limitación funcional o compromi-so articular |
