RESUMO A fisioterapia é reconhecida tradicionalmente como importante componente individual de serviços necessários ao atendimento do idoso doente. Esse ramo da área da saúde vem, progressivamente, contribuindo também para a atenção do idoso sadio, proporcionando a sua independência e estimulando o autocuidado. Diante da realidade inquestionável das transformações demográficas iniciadas no último século e do envelhecimento da população, evidencia-se a importância de garantir aos idosos não só uma sobrevida maior, mas também uma boa qualidade de vida. Sendo assim, o presente artigo tem com o objetivo de conhecer a atual realidade da atenção ao idoso na rede básica de saúde brasileira. Por meio de um estudo de revisão bibliográfica sobre o trabalho da fisioterapeuta na assistência ao idoso, verificou-se a atuação do profissional não somente nas unidades básicas de saúde, mas também enquanto profissional do Núcleo de Apoio à Saúde da Família – NASF. Also, this branch of the health area has increasingly contributed to the care of healthy elderly, providing their independence and stimulating their self-care. Facing the unquestionable reality of demographic changes which began in the last century and the population aging, the importance of ensuring the elderly not only a greater survival, but also a good quality of life becomes evident.
