الوصف: Background. In the months of October and November 2021, there was throughout Italy and in our specific case in the area of Lucca and Versilia, a disturbing increase of SARS CoV-2 infections and cases of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in new-borns. The aim of this paper is to compare the cases of RSV infection diagnosed in recent years to the cases recorded during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic to November 2022.Materials and methods. The study consisted of evaluating the results of requests for RSV diagnosis from 2015 to November 2022, using molecular biology techniques.Results. The data obtained show that the number of cases of RSV infection in children during the winter season had a constant trend from 2015 to 2019. From November 2020 to February 2021 there were no cases of RSV respiratory infections. Starting from September 2021, on the other hand, there was a resumption of cases of RSV infections in conjunction with an increase in the number of children affected by COVID-19. From January 2022, after a peak in cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection, there has been a decrease in RSV infections. From September 2022 to November 2022, there was no increase of cases of RSV infections in new-borns but on the contrary, there was a trend in respiratory infections comparable to the pre-pandemic period.Conclusion. The data that emerged from the study conducted, show the onset of an outbreak of RSV in new-borns. This incidence is linked to the implementation of rigorous non- harmacological public health interventions in 2020, aimed at combating COVID-19 infection. The use of the molecular panel made it possible to identifying the responsible agent and highlighting the most suitable clinical and therapeutic path.

الوصف: Objective. The aim is to describe dietary habits and their association with socio-demographiccharacteristics in a large nationally representative sample of Italian adolescentsaged 11, 13 and 15 years.Materials and methods. Data from the 2018 Italian Health Behaviour in School-agedChildren (HBSC) survey on 58,976 adolescents were analysed to determine eating habits.Logistic regression was used to investigate the association between incorrect dietaryhabits and potential predictors.Results. 38.3% of boys and 48.1% of girls skipped breakfast and 54.1% did not consumefruit and/or vegetables daily. 15.9% of boys and 11.3% of girls drank carbonated-sugarybeverages at least once a day. Incorrect dietary habits were more common among boys, adolescents with lower socio-economic conditions, residents in Southern Italy and thosespending more time watching TV. Italian adolescents were more likely to have incorrectdietary habits compared with those from most other countries involved in 2018 HBSC.Conclusions. Action is needed to improve dietary habits among adolescents.

الوصف: Objective. The aim was to investigate the role of different forms of social support in earlysexual intercourse and contraceptive use.Materials and methods. The study sample included 18,918 15-year-olds who took partin the 2018 Italian Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study. Multivariable multilevellogistic regressions were performed taking into account geographical region andsocioeconomic status.Results. 21.7% of adolescents reported early sexual intercourse. 71.9% used a condomat last sexual intercourse, 12.2% oral contraceptives 41.2% other contraceptive methods(multiple response question). High support from family and from teachers were associatedwith a lower likelihood of early sexual intercourse in both genders, while peersupport was shown to increase this likelihood among boys. Adolescents with high socialsupport were more likely to use condoms.Conclusions. Social support can have a positive influence on adolescents’ sexual behaviour.Sexual education programmes should aim to engage peers and those significantadults who can influence adolescents’ lives, in and out of school.

الوصف: Objective To describe dietary habits and related geographic and socio-demographic characteristics among children aged 8-9 years in Italy. Materials and methods Data from the 2012 national nutritional surveillance system collected from children, parents and teachers, have been linked to determine the children's eating habits. Logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the association between incorrect dietary habits and their potential predictors. Results Of the 46307 children, 8.6% skipped breakfast, 48.8% did not eat vegetables and 28.7% did not eat fruit daily, 64.8% ate an abundant mid-morning snack, 41.4% drank sugary beverages and 12.5% drank carbonated beverages at least once a day. Three or more incorrect habits were found in 43.9% of the children. Incorrect dietary habits were more common among children with lower socio-economic conditions, who were resident in the South of the country and who spent more time watching TV. Conclusion In Italy, unhealthy dietary habits are common among children. The deficiencies identified may well be a harbinger of future public health problems.
