الوصف: The environmental accounting literature covers both public and private, or corporate, fields. The needs of private firms differ from public organisations in that environmental accounting systems must pay for themselves. Stakeholder analysis and the so-called triple bottom line forget that shareholders (and regulators) must be satisfied. However, unsatisfied stakeholders can impact on the firm’s financial prospects and on shareholder value. This leads to strategic accounting, which endogenises future environmental costs, and relates to corporate goodwill and social capital. Rethinking private environmental accounting shows how it can lead to more efficient corporate governance, and what role government can play.

الوصف: An agropark is a cluster in which several primary producers and processors cooperate to enhance sustainable agro-food production. Because agroparks represent complex system innovations, this article studies their realisation trajectories from the stakeholder management perspective. By using the case study method, the research confirms that agroparks are system innovations involving many participants, most of them being key stakeholders. The different stakes and power positions, and their impact have been assessed. and managed in line with the realisation process of the agropark. The paper provides first learnings on stakeholder management in agropark projects, which may promote their realisation.

الوصف: In recent decades the Hungarian intelligentsia, both political and governmental, emphasised the importance of higher education in socio-economic modernisation. At the same time, after nearly twenty years of system-transition we have to see that the ambitious goals of reforms in many cases have been turned into their opposite. This paper analyses the key actors and their strategies in the higher education system, highlighting the most important obstacles to development based on a multi-actor strategy model, based on institutional economy and principle-agent theory. The results show considerable divergence in force and interest-structure of different actors. As a consequence of relationship of forces it has been shown that, without steadfast governmental policy, long-term commitment for development and active participation of the business sector in innovation, there seems to be only a rather limited possibility for upgrading the agricultural higher education system.

الوصف: Sonoma Foie Gras is one of three producers of foie gras in the U.S. and the sole producer in California. The company employs the practice of force-feeding ducks and geese to produce this culinary delicacy. The case describes the foie gras industry and pending legislation in California, which would ban the practice of force-feeding ducks and geese as well as the sale of the products of force-feeding birds. Readers are asked to conduct a stakeholder analysis to identify the primary stakeholders and their interests, and to identify alternatives and a course of action for Sonoma Foie Gras.

الوصف: California strawberry growers were faced with the possibility of losing one of their most important chemicals, methyl bromide. Methyl bromide was believed to be involved in the depletion of the ozone layer and 162 countries had signed the Montreal Protocol, which would lead to an eventual ban of the chemical. The US EPA had scheduled the complete phaseout of methyl bromide by 2001. The case is ideal for teaching the application of stakeholder analysis to both undergraduate and graduate classes.

الوصف: Effective and efficient water management implies understanding the wants and desires of the human populations through its key stakeholder groups. As a valuable resource that involves many regulating and managing players, the Red River of the North basin is an excellent case for studying stakeholder preferences and presenting them to involved managers. The primary goal of this research was to analyze stakeholder preferences for hypothetical Red River basin fresh water management alternatives. Specific objectives included comparing preferences across key stakeholder groups and estimating residents’ willingness to pay for additional water management programs. Initial experts’ and focus group meetings were used to select appropriate attributes and levels to be used within a stated choice experiments analysis. The final list of attributes included: additional recreation opportunities, water supply augmentation projects, water quality initiatives, and the type of institution that would be trusted. An additional levy upon annual property taxes, ranging from $20 to $240, was used as the price of these additional programs. Mail surveys were sent to three main stakeholder groups: informed stakeholders, who had attended the Red River Basin Commission water management conference; decision-makers, including county commissioners and mayors in basin constituencies; and random residents. An overall response rate of 34% was achieved. One interesting result was the general homogeneity of opinions across stakeholder groups. A log likelihood test failed to reject the hypothesis that stakeholders’ preferences were the same across groups. Results from the pooled nested logit model show younger respondents, males, non-farmers and those categorized as pro resource conservation in favor of additional water management projects. Initiatives that were favored by respondents included: phosphorous and nitrogen reduction and enhanced fishery management. Because the population of random residents did not demonstrate a preference for any ...
