The article discusses a study of the association between the occurrence of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) after lung resection surgery and characteristic expression of cytokines. Sixty patients with a thoracotomy were included in the study in Dublin, Ireland. It cites the immediate alteration of cytokine gene expression after surgery in patients who developed HAP. Results show a link between the onset of infection and a deficiency in the expression of genes encoding proinflammatory proteins. |
