The authors comment on a Swedish Obese Subjects (SOS) study which examined the effect of bariatric surgery on the risk of developing diabetes mellitus in obese patients over a 15-year period. The authors explain the cost of the benefits associated with bariatric surgery. They cite drop-out rates as one of the limitations of SOS study. They also express concern over the study's definition of diabetes mellitus and the possibility of allocation bias. |
