الوصف: Adaptive emotion regulation (ER) relates to various beneficial outcomes for children and adolescents, such as well-being (Daniel et al., 2020), educational achievement (Djambazova-Popordanoska, 2016) and problem behaviour (PB) (Cavicchioli et al., 2023, Compas et al., 2017). There is much research on the latter but how exactly adaptive ER and PB are linked in childhood and adolescence is still uncertain. However, expansions of Gross’ (2015) extended process model of ER (Pruessner et al., 2015; Sheppes et al., 2015) indicate that executive functioning (EF) might be a crucial factor. That is, higher EF may facilitate successful ER at every stage of the ER process (Pruessner et al., 2020), whereas repeated unsuccessful ER at any component and stage of the ER process may result in PB (Sheppes et al., 2015).
